At least, that's what she keeps telling herself. Still, date after date turns into nothing more than ghosted texts and forgotten memories. With everyone around her falling in love, she's anxious and desperate for her own happy ending. Too bad her days are spent avoiding her overbearing billionaire boss and trying to manage dating with being at someone's beck and call.Brianna Allen has it all - fame, money, and a great body. The only thing she doesn't have, as it turns out, is a date for her brother's upcoming wedding. She decides to bring her assistant at the last possible second, but she knows that it's a terrible idea. After all, Melanie is smart, funny, and insanely gorgeous. She also hates Brianna's guts. When a surprise storm causes them to spend the night alone, what starts with fighting and angst quickly turns passionate in this forced proximity just-one-bed sapphic romance. Will Melanie and Brianna be able to work through their differences to find their happily-ever-after?Or will the billionaire and the princess find themselves walking away from what could have been a fairy tale? For every masc who has ever dreamed of finding a princess to call their very own 1 Melanie “You’re late.” Two little words. It’s just two little words – technically, three words – and they have the power to ruin my entire day. Only, I won’t let them because I’m better than that. I shove my shoulders back and hold my head high. “It was a rough morning,” I say. I’m not going to dive into the real stuff that happened to me this morning. Brianna is my boss. Nothing more. Nothing less. We aren’t friends. We aren’t buddies. She doesn’t get to know that my car had a flat this morning or that my cab driver took several wrong turns. Brianna considers this for a moment. The tall woman in heels looks at me. She scrutinizes me from head to toe, staring at me like I’m the worst thing to ever happen to her. I can’t tell whether she finds me unattractive, boring, or dumb. Maybe it’s all three. And maybe, just maybe, I should start brushing up my resume and preparing for the inevitable. At some point, I’m going to have to find a different job because I can already tell that Brianna doesn’t want me here forever. Even my date last night asked me whether I was doing okay coping with my position. Considering the fact that my last three dates have all lacked a second date invitation, I’d say I’m letting my work stress seep into my personal life. That’s really something I should work on. “Are you all right?” Brianna’s words shock me. In fact, I’m so surprised that I almost drop her coffee. She seems to realize this and rushes across the room to grab the cup from my hands. She pauses in front of me and places a hand on my shoulder. I can’t help it. I close my eyes for just a second at the nearness of her body. I love being so close to her even though I also hate it. She smells so good and she’s so stupidly pretty. And she’d never look twice at someone like me. “Melanie? Are you all right?” I’m brought back to the moment suddenly. “Yeah,” I say, staring up at my boss. She’s taller than me and keeps her hair short. She doesn’t wear dresses – only suits – but she always pairs them with heels. I’m sure it’s some sort of power move. She’d make a good masc lesbian, I think, although I’ve never confirmed whether or not she’s gay. It’s not like I can ask her. If she ever met my stepsister, Jordan, I’d ask about it. Jordan has a way with people and could instantly peg whether my boss is straight or not. Not that it matters because the two of us have no possible future. It could never happen. Ever. “Are you sure?” “I’m fine.” “Do you need to take the morning?” Okay, now I’m worried. “Are you fine?” I ask Brianna. She’s never this nice. Most of the time, she’s rough and all-business. She’s bossy as hell, which works for her. It means that she’s the type of no-nonsense person who can get things done. She delegates when she needs to, but for the most part, she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty. That’s why she’s one of the richest women in the country. Brianna is a billionaire, and I’m just the loser who works for her. “I’m fine,” she says, but there are worry lines on her face. That’s when I realize a couple of other things, too. Brianna’s hair looks frizzy. Her hair never looks frizzy. There are dark circles under her eyes which are carefully covered with makeup, but no amount of makeup could cover the fact that she’s not sleeping. Why isn’t she sleeping? Then there are her nails. Most of the time, she keeps her fingernails short. This is another part of the reason I think there’s a chance she might be gay. No self-respecting masc is going to keep her nails as long as most of the women in the office do. Well, that’s probably not a fair assessment. Jordan sometimes wears her long for special events, although that’s quite a rarity. The
