And for the record, I LOVE writing paranormal Romances! PROLOGUE “Magick Mirror on the wall, tell me who is the fairest of them all.” If all he’d ever given her was flattery, he wouldn’t be where he was—lost in the darkness and separated from the light, with only occasional glimpses into the lives and souls of those outside the Void… outside of time and space. But it is here in the inky blackness that he belongs, for he helped her with more things than just flattery. Many believe the tales of Snow White are fantastical and untrue. They are wrong. He believed her when, time and time again, she said someone was cruel or heartless and that only his magick could defeat them and keep her safe. He believed, and so he cast those accused into the Void. He did her bidding, but it wasn’t those she pointed her bony finger at who were evil. When he realized her treachery, he thought to take the coward’s way out and cast himself into the Void. But it seemed destiny would not allow him to vanish quietly into the darkness. He was tasked with helping those who were fated mates to find one another. He couldn’t participate physically in their world to influence the outcome. He could only show them the possibilities of what could be and allow destiny to weave its web. And so it is he lingers in the Void, waiting for redemption in the guise of love. CHAPTER 1 Iris Kingsley wandered the secret hallways, stairwells, and tunnels that riddled her beloved home, Far Point Manor. Her mate had been dead for five long years. Everyone was sympathetic. Everyone said they understood, but they didn’t. Her son now ruled here, having killed the wolf who killed her mate. She was happy enough for the most part, most of the time, but there were still times when she didn’t have enough to do, and it was at those times she missed her mate the most. Rogan, she sighed, thinking of her son. He was an extraordinary leader and alpha to their pack. His father would have been proud, and she often thought her mate must look down upon their son with contentment, secure in the knowledge he had taught him well. Rogan’s vengeance against those who had waited until he was at sea to challenge and kill his father had been swift and terrible. Ripping his father’s killer from between the legs of a she-wolf he had meant to rape, Rogan had torn him limb from limb. Those who had thought to be ranking members of the new pack order found themselves in the dungeon of Far Point and executed as the sun rose the next day. Under Rogan, the pack had continued on as it had before for hundreds of years, with the notable exceptions being Iris having lost her mate and a young she-wolf having been terrorized and almost raped. Rogan had dealt with that, as well. Iris' thoughts drifted to her lost love. Ambrose. Her mate’s name meant immortal, and she had genuinely thought he would be thus. She had loved him for so long, she had never envisioned a life without him. She had thought they would go to sleep one night in each other’s arms and pass together from this plane of existence to the next. She had never imagined he would die before she did, leaving her alone. It was an irony. She had never thought he would choose her for his mate, and when he did, she hadn’t responded well. That might well be the understatement of the decade, she thought to herself, remembering when he had come to her father’s court to demand her as his due. “She is my only daughter and should remain in our pack,” she heard her father say. Iris couldn’t decide if she was happy to hear that or not. When she looked around the dining hall each night, there was no wolf who garnered anything more than her passing attention. Although many tried, Iris would not allow anyone to pay court to her. Her thoughts and fantasies still rested on the warrior who had swept in and defeated the evil queen when she’d laid siege to their stronghold. It was during one of the human rebellions. Ambrose had been tasked to put the rebellion down, execute the leaders and keep the other packs safe. He had done so in particularly spectacular fashion—confronting the
