My hands shake as they hold those of the man in front of me as the priest says his piece. Matteo Moretti barely looks at me, almost annoyed he has to be here as much as I am. He glares at the priest to speed it up, and I take the chance to take him in. He’s far taller than me, and even though he’s thirty-nine, he appears to still be in shape under his tuxedo. His dark hair is pushed neatly back on the top of his head, his brown eyes dark as he glares at me. How did I end up here? I look out over the crowd at my father and his second wife and daughter. He married almost immediately after my mother died to some awful woman, and they had an even worse child spawn. My half-sister, Angela, was sixteen and practically the devil incarnate. My parents would rather have married her off to the prominent mafia boss to solidify their positions in Chicago. However, sadly she was still a minor and only half Italian. So here I am, being forced to marry a man old enough to be my father.Matteo squeezes my hands hard, and I look up to lock eyes with him once more. I swallow hard as he raises his brows, leaning down so only I can hear him. “Pay attention, girl.” The priest clears his throat, catching my attention. “Do you, Natalia Rosa De Luca take this man to be your husband?” Yada, yada. I blank out again before nodding. “I do.” I look down as Matteo slides a beautiful, diamond-crusted wedding band on my ring finger as the priest continues. When Matteo says his own, ‘I do,’ I follow after him, sliding on a silver wedding band on his ring finger as he nods slightly. He sighs when he’s told we can kiss and my eyes snap shut as he leans forward to place a peck on my lips. That’s it? That’s all I can think of. One measly peck? He grabs my hand, walking through the processional until we are outside in front of a limo. He practically tosses me inside, forcing me to collide with another man. I groan, looking up at the man with dark hair and bright blue eyes, a five o’clock shadow on his face. “I’m sorry.”He doesn’t say anything, only points to the seat across from him. I smooth down my dress and take the seat as Matteo enters to sit by him. “This is Lorenzo. He doesn’t like to talk, and he doesn’t like to be touched. Leave him alone, and he’ll leave you alone.”I swallow hard, looking back at Lorenzo to see him turn and look out the window. “Okay. Um… now what?”Matteo laughs and shrugs. “Now we are married, and you’ll give me a legitimate heir I desperately need.” My eyes widen, suddenly feeling sick to my stomach as I wrap my arms around myself. Lorenzo glances at me quickly before looking out the window as Matteo laughs again. “What did you expect, little one? Don’t worry; I won’t bother you tonight.” I look out the window as we pull up to a giant white mansion outside the city. There’s a huge fountain in the middle of the rounded driveway as the limo pulls up in front of the front door. The men both get out first, walking away and leaving me alone in the limo. I scoff, climbing out and chasing after them. “Wait for me. You guys are like giants!”Lorenzo chuckles slightly, surprising me as Matteo turns on his heel to me, almost forcing me to run into him. He grips my arm tightly above the elbow. “You don’t get to demand shit here. You are not in charge around here. I am. You do what I say and when I say it. Otherwise, you stay silent and out of the way. You understand me?”I nod, wincing as I try to pull my arm away from him. He releases me, causing me to fall backward onto the floor. I climb to my feet as Matteo disappears, and Lorenzo points in front of him. I follow him up the stairs to a long hall, practically sprinting to keep up with him. He opens a door, and I enter, looking around at the giant bedroom. “This is mine and Matteo’s room?”Lorenzo only laughs, and I hear the door shut behind me. I scoff, sitting on the edge of the giant king-sized bed with purple bedding. The room has a giant dresser next to the door, bathroom, and closet. I stand up and walk to the closet to find it mostly empty, my few articles of clothing I own occupying a small corner. I opened some drawers and found some lingerie and some pajamas. I drop my wedding dress to the floor and pull on a red silk teddy. I go to the bathroom to find a few necessities: a brush. I brush out my
