Too many civilians.” Sending his man to the rooftop was out of the question. Smith said, “Maintain visual.” “Roger.” Smith was one block away from Khao San Road, a short street in central Bangkok, Thailand, known for its night market. Pushing his way through the thick knots of tourists, locals, and parties spilling out from the various bars, restaurants, and clubs, he thought about how he’d do anything to stop his target before he escaped again. “Target’s on the move,” the lieutenant’s voice crackled into Smith’s earpiece. “Whatever you do, don’t lose him.” Smith knew he had seconds to react. The air pulsed and pounded as I worked my way deeper into The Club. Pressed between gyrating, sweaty bodies moving to techno music, I felt a pair of small hands grab hold of my waist. A small Thai woman with a cute smile forced herself in front of me and pushed her hands up my chest before hooking them around my neck. We danced and, soon, her friend joined us. They never noticed how I moved them further back, into the corner of the dance floor, where I had my back up against the wall, giving me a complete visual of the club. They kept touching my body as I scanned the many faces coming and going. I didn’t see the man who was coming after me, or anybody who had the concentrated look of
