March Connect with Mazzy! I ran across the country to give myself a new start, a new life—I never thought it would end up like this. One week, I’m a janitor for the Urban Academy, a place rich in things that go bump in the night, including someone who I swear turned from a human to a beast right outside the window. The headmistress knows what I saw, and her reaction was to give me a free ride to this college and make me sign a peculiar NDA. Doesn’t matter. I’m getting a free education, room, and board, instead of working myself to the bone to afford a tiny apartment and some scraps of food. The only thing left is to figure out what the hell they are teaching in class and catch up; plus, I have a crush on the guy who turned into the monster. And maybe one or two others… That may be a problem. Urban Academy Semester 2 is the second story in the brand-new Urban Academy series by bestselling author Mazzy J. March. The first three books follow the story of Valentina’s new life in the city at The Academy where she learns that the world is much broader and more varied than she ever dreamed, and sometimes a human girl’s fate may twine with that of another kind of being. We’d had lunch together every day for a week now, but today he hadn’t shown up. I missed him, which was ridiculous considering we hadn’t kissed again since that night when he gifted me a laptop and a brownie. Perhaps I was reading too much into things. Maybe he just felt sorry for the human. But they were kind of perfect gifts. “You are particularly forlorn today.” Raven sat across from me. Usually, my acquaintance, not friend, sat by herself reading about bats or how to speak in the least caring tone ever. Maybe the magnetism of my own mood sparked her need to grace me with her presence. I liked Raven. She never left you guessing. She shot her arrows straight, and you smiled while you bled. “It’s temporary. Don’t get used to it. Tomorrow, I might smile, and you will be forced back into self-inflicted solitary confinement, reading about taxidermy or how to keep yourself free of all facial expressions.” She snorted. Raven. Snorted. I made Raven almost laugh. This was the pattern we had fallen into. She was solemn and annoyed, and I was ignorant of mostly everything about this school and, gods forbid, happy. We fit. But we were not friends. Raven didn’t have friends. “Taxidermy…” One of her perfectly manicured black eyebrows cocked up at the notion. Gods help the world. I gave her an idea. “I’m adding that to my list. Thank you. Pray tell, what has you frowning today?” She pretended not to care about anyone, but she asked me how I was doing sometimes. I see you in there, Raven, behind the wall. “Bishop didn’t show up to lunch today. That’s all.” Raven scoffed. “The rich kids take a vacation between semesters. You came here right on the cusp of the second semester. You got your new schedule, right?” I had. It started tomorrow. Semester one, I was the janitor. Semester two, I was still the janitor but also a student. On scholarship. Which was quite an upgrade. But if Bishop had gone on vacation, as she suggested, he hadn’t told me. “I got it.” She nodded and scrunched her button nose at the meat. With her fork, she stabbed it with a bit too much gusto. “I think it’s a mixture of some sort, but I can’t guess what kinds. Gross. You know where
