She points at the diner. “I called ahead to my friend, she says she’ll give you a job for as long as you need it. Her name’s Stefanie, and she’ll help you with whatever you need.” My heart squeezes in my chest, and tears well up in my eyes. I haven’t known such kindness in a long time, and it almost hurts to be saying goodbye to this woman who has done so much for me. “Thank you, Kiara. I seriously can’t say that enough.” She shakes her head, a few strands of her curly brown hair coming loose from the bun she put it in at some point. “There is no need, sweetheart.
