You, girl, are responsible for all of this. I blame you. See, I’m not a big follower of most holidays, because after researching them I tend to become a bit disenchanted (the same can be said for religions, but that’s another conversation entirely). However, Anne loves holidays, all of them, and seeing her get so enthused and wrapped up in the spirit more often than not does something to me. I can’t help but get swept up myself. Now, Halloween is already my favorite holiday, but I wasn’t planning on doing anything special until Anne kept bouncing all over the place, talking about how much she loves it and how she couldn’t wait for it to finally get here. So instead of going trick-or-treating (which she spent almost an hour trying to convince me to do), I decided to write a story to scare her silly. I’m fairly new to the horror genre, so I doubt I did, but I had an inordinate amount of fun trying. I hope you all have an Anne in your life. Everyone needs at least one. Most of my books take place in the same universe (I like to call it the Alexaverse) and contain characters and situations found in other books I’ve written. This story is definitely no exception, though the connection may not be obvious. The main character of this story, Sheila, is the mother of Jamie (who, in this story, hasn’t even been born yet). Jamie is the main character of The Girl in The Mirror, which is part of my Erotic Urban Legends series and is also directly connected to another novel of mine, Girl Fight. Of course, this tale stands on its own, meaning no other books need to be read to understand this. Hopefully, all of that makes sense. Check the end of this book for a more comprehensive timeline, which might help. Regardless, thank you for reading. She sighed and wrapped her arms around her small form, holding her, wishing there was something she could do to siphon her sickness. “Sorry,” Tyra said groggily, turning her head quickly in a fit of coughing. “I didn’t mean to wake you. I came in to check on you and kind of just... lost motivation.” Sheila smiled and opened her eyes. She looked down at her best friend, whose puffy tangled hair was tickling her chin, and decided that she enjoyed the feel of Tyra’s head as it came to rest on her collarbone.
