Just click on the image above! ⇧ PROLOGUE Given the circumstances, the household was suspiciously quiet. Selina was but eighteen years old, and it was all too easy to think back on the hustle and bustle of the corridors when it was her sister’s turn. Ellen could hardly move for the well-meaning staff wanting to primp and preen her for her first debut into society, but such treatment towards Selina was practically non-existent. "I must admit that this is much more practical," her mother mused, "I was never even able to give Ellen any encouragement before getting into the carriage." "Chance would be a fine thing," Selina muttered to herself. Lady Templeton meant well, but such suggestions as "smile politely" and "be interesting" were not the most incredible words of wisdom that a young lady could hear. Then again, it had worked well for Ellen. She had debuted and was engaged within the month. Such behavior would usually be the cause of scandal, but for one reason or another Ellen had been saved from such a fate. In fact, the ladies of the ton that were infamous for their vicious gossip were like little bees around Ellen and Lady Templeton. Each wished to hear of her whirlwind romance with the Viscount of Groundon, down to the finest details. Selina had such information memorized, not because she had asked but because those ladies then went on to recount it all to her. She played the part well, of course, and smiled and nodded and told them that it was indeed such wonderful luck that it took one dance and an afternoon tea for the two of them to be certain that there was love between them. Over time, Selina became accustomed to the fairytale her family lived in. She knew that it would be but a year before it was her turn to be thrust upon society, and she began to dream of her own season.
