Without their love and encouragement, this book would never have been completed. I will forever be indebted to them for standing by me through the hard days. BLURB The money. The fame. The women. The Copper Crowns has it all, embarking on their latest tour promoting their new album. The world is at their feet when bass player Wix, and drummer Arch, take a side trip in the Houston area looking for something more. When you have it all, what is left to fight for? To live for? The thing is, you don’t know until you find it. Bardot is free from the restrictions of the world and the hype and buzz of it all. She’s carefree, living her life running day trips from Galveston into the bay and the Gulf of Mexico on the sailboat her father left her. She loves nothing more than the open seas and her freedom. When Wix has a chance meeting with Bardot, it’s clear their lives couldn’t be more polar opposite. But as the saying goes, opposites attract, and now Wix has found that thing to fight for, to live for. But when a blast from Bardot’s past returns, it could send everything up in flames. Can they find a way through the ash and embers to each other? Or will their paths be too different to keep them afloat… TABLE OF CONTENTS DEDICATION BLURB TABLE OF CONTENTS CHAPTER ONE CHAPTER TWO CHAPTER THREE CHAPTER FOUR CHAPTER FIVE CHAPTER SIX CHAPTER SEVEN CHAPTER EIGHT CHAPTER NINE CHAPTER TEN CHAPTER ELEVEN CHAPTER TWELVE CHAPTER THIRTEEN CHAPTER FOURTEEN CHAPTER FIFTEEN CHAPTER SIXTEEN CHAPTER SEVENTEEN CHAPTER EIGHTEEN CHAPTER NINETEEN CHAPTER TWENTY CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO CHAPTER TWENTY-THREE CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR CHAPTER TWENTY-FIVE CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT CHAPTER TWENTY-NINE CHAPTER THIRTY CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE ACKNOWLEDGMENTS CONNECT WITH ME ONLINE ABOUT THE AUTHOR CHAPTER ONE BARDOT Is this my lucky day? How many times have I sat in the cockpit of a sailboat readying it for an easy day excursion? Today feels like something definitely different. Two tatted-up guys caught my attention while walking toward the boat with all the swagger expected from bad boys who resemble these two. From the minute they stepped on the floating dock—I knew it, I just knew it—they were cocky smart-asses intended to board my boat with expectations of me taking care of their every need. Ha, were they ever wrong! Skippering the boat is my job. That’s it. I worked with a crew of one that saw to the guests. For over a year now, Gilley and I have worked together, taking sailing charters out of Kemah, Texas’ South Front Yacht Club. We jokingly bet when the guests arrived, they would assume Gilley was the captain and I the hostess. Surprise beamed over their red faces when they discovered the female captained the vessel. Gilley hosted with a weathered look that bespoke the amount of time he had done this type of work. First off, the idea of cooking made me want to laugh in their faces. If they only knew how little I understood the use of a kitchen. Scrambling eggs and sprinkling cheddar cheese on top was the limit to my culinary skills. But that doesn’t matter since I poured picante sauce on everything, so it all tasted the same. And that’s even if it happens to land on a plate since straight from the pot works for me too. Put me behind the wheel of a huge sailboat or the tiller of a smaller sailing craft, and I’m in my element. Before I barely acquired sea legs, my dad had me out on our boat helping him ready the craft for sailing out of the harbor and to the open waters. Wearing the salt spray on my face provided my perfect wake-up call. Smooth, shiny, stainless steel thawed my hands as I wrapped my fingers around the wheel while Dad balanced me on his knee in the cockpit on any brisk day. The wind ruffled my dark curls, and if a strong gust blew hard enough, I felt like it sucked the air from my lungs until I forced myself to inhale, ending the slight fear of oxygen deprivation. With my forever-present life jacket strapped around me, I learned to skipper a boat long before the DMV allowed me to drive a car. Texas law declared I had to be thirteen before I could get a certificate to drive a boat, so Dad sat beside me while I gripped the wheel, seeming twice my size. Those priceless days lingered and were burned in my memories.
