Leon Graves has just joined the FBI and is working under Dr. Naderi, a demanding boss with “a heart of stone.” Before he can say Jack Robinson, Leon and his new team have to fly to New York for a gruesome case where 3 people from a retirement home are murdered, dismembered, and their body parts shoved in random pits. Leon and his teammates set out to the nursing home for investigations, but they soon discover that someone posing as one of their agents subtly ransacked the home, possibly getting rid of any evidence. But one thing is clear – this killer is meticulous. After reviewing the employee list, they zero in on one suspect and have to hold on to all their hope that they have the right guy. But another older man’s dead body pops up, yet Leon doesn’t have much to work with other than an unlikely suspect and a faint footprint out in the bushes. Days then weeks pass, but they still have nothing. Will they find the killer, or do they have a cold case in the making? It is the one thing that everyone strives for in a world that makes it impossible to retain. People would scramble over each other for just a sliver of control in their lives and especially the lives of others. After all, we all like to influence each other and incite feelings like jealousy and violence – all for a drop of control. While others tamp that desire down, there are others, like me, who don’t shy away from grabbing onto what we deserve. I’m not a coward. I don’t shy away from what I want. And what I want is to see helplessness – a vivid testament to the control and power that I hold over another person’s head.People are suspicious creatures, though. They like to ask questions that don’t concern them and insert themselves into narratives they have no business in. Most of all, they are too close-minded to understand why I do what I do. Killing is frowned upon and I can see why. It is a dirty deed that implants itself into all senses. I have never experienced anything like it. The sight of the blood stained fingers and clothes and the amount of effort it takes into cleaning it all up is bizarre. And the smell, metallic and thick, just filled up the air and took all the space within it, reminding the killer, me, of what I had done. Do I feel guilty? No. The people I target are no longer part of society. If anything, they cause more trouble than they are worth. If only the police would appreciate my good deeds. I chose my target during the week. She was a little old lady with a filthy mouth. Every single day I would walk past and hear her shouting and cursing at the poor nurses who just wanted to help. She was entitled, and for that, I did respect her a little bit. She understood what it meant to gain control, to have power over somebody. I could imagine her when she was younger and less wrinkly.Judging from the giant pearls on her thin neck and earlobes, it was obvious that this was a wealthy woman. Add in the fact that she treated everybody else like trash, it was safe to assume that she was most likely an heiress to some fortune that her children had now gone and squandered, leaving her to rot in this pathetic excuse of an old age home. But oh, her whining could go on for hours and hours. She was the type to wake up at the break of dawn just to complain that her breakfast wasn’t ready like it always was. And then, by noon, she would grumble about the nurses and care assistants not tending to her every need, despite having other people to take care of. Then when night would begin to fall, she could still be heard berating someone, some poor intern perhaps, about something that everyone else had heard repeatedly since the very first day she had been carted off to this home. She was clearly miserable, and I had something to prove. It was a match made in heaven. The old crone never bothered to check her windows. Ever since the day I laid eyes on her, she would always leave the windows open, be it summer or winter. What she searched for beyond the confines of her room lay beyond those windows. She looked at the sky plenty of times and I wondered if she was religious. Does she believe that she would one day go to heaven? I was more than happy to help her achieve her little dream, although I never would know what happens after death. The air that night was
