Dr. Naderi sees it fit to put Leon on another case. The victim is Mrs. Nguyen, murdered and dismembered just like the victims in a 13-year-old cold case, but this killer was sloppy – something the other killer wasn't. Could it be the same killer or an upcoming copycat?Leon and Dr. Evelyn go back to the home for girls and discover that a fake cop had swept the building, claiming to be in search of evidence. As Leon and Dr. Evelyn continue working on the girls' case, they get their hands on an employee list that might have the name of a potential suspect. Leon retires to his room with the list, and when he is resting on the bed, partly awake, somebody stealthily makes away with it– while he feels and hears everything but can't move.Who would steal the employee list?Has the FBI dream team lost its magic? None of them were. They were truly just friends. They were loud and annoying, and they cried too much. They cried for their parents and their friends. They didn’t even acknowledge me. I was here to take care of them, and they didn’t even notice me. The clothes they wore, I had bought for them. I had tried everything to gain their favor and yet they remained ungrateful. I miss her. They weren’t like her, and I fear that there would be no one else. I miss her. But no, I can’t give up now. Those two, Jenna and Marie, they don’t matter to me anymore. I have Bella. My Bella. She’s quiet, not like the other two, but I can sense her fear. No worries, she will get used to me. She will realize that we’re going to be happy, like a family. I’m going to treat her better than her parents ever will because I care about her. She is my center, and she always will be.This house? It will be for them. It will be for our family. Chapter 1At that moment, Leon would have preferred the bass boosted music the club had been playing before it was cleared out. The silence in his head was too loud – his failures too prominent. The moment he saw Dr. Evelyn’s face fall, he knew something was wrong. His frown grew deeper when he caught sight of a reporter lurking right behind the officer talking to Dr. Evelyn. Before he knew it, his feet were taking him to Dr. Evelyn. “What is he doing here?” he hissed, gesturing to the reporter.Dr. Evelyn shrugged but she, too, wore a frown. It was less severe than the one on Leon’s face, partly because she was still dealing with the shock. They had been so close. It was that thought that had Leon absolutely seething from within. He had missed something, a clue or a hint, and it had cost them valuable time. “I don’t know,” Dr. Evelyn replied, her voice breathy. The officer in front of her shuffled awkwardly. Leon noticed and stepped towards a little closer. “You look like you know something,” he said. His voice was soft, but his tone was nowhere near friendly. The officer moved back on instinct. Leon didn’t like that. “You have something to do with that man standing outside with a camera?” Leon asked. Before the man could respond, Leon spoke again. “You do realize that the only people who know about why we’re here is you guys, right?” “No, no, of course I don’t!” the man protested.“Then why is he here?” Leon asked again. Dr. Evelyn placed a hand on his arm to curb his rising anger. The officer, unaware of the internal battle Leon was having, broke.“Talk to the chief, he would know something about it. All we were told is that if Mr. Dorian asks us for information, we are to give it.”“Thank you,” Dr. Evelyn said kindly. She patted the man’s hand for good measure while digging her fingers into Leon’s forearm. When the officer left, she glared at Leon. “What was that?” she hissed. Leon didn’t answer. All he could see was the reporter trying to get through the police tape that had been put up around the building. The officers were barely trying to get Mr. Dorian back. In fact, it seemed as if they were all friendly. “He was letting civilians into a crime scene, Evelyn!” Leon exclaimed. Dr. Evelyn jerked back. He had never used her first name before. Leon noticed and stepped back. She let go of his arm and, for a moment, silence draped over the two of them. “We’re going back to the station,”
