Calm down, sweetheart.” “Which part of me saying ‘stop’ made you think that we were having a good time, dipshit?” The dark-haired man who stood across from me let his hands fall to his sides and shook his head in a sneer. “Calm down, you uptight bitch.” “What did you just say to me?” I took a step closer and was suddenly pulled back, when a strong hand wrapped around my waist, pulling me into his side. The tall blonde man who now had me tucked into his side had materialized out of nowhere. I looked up at him, the pulsing neon lights glistening around his head, giving him a strange glow. He let go of me, and squared up to the dark-haired man, easily standing well above him in height, and a quick look passed between the two of them. “If you’d like to put your hands on someone, I welcome you to put them on me, and see what happens.” The blonde said to the dark-haired jerk who had been harassing me. “Fuck you.” “Yeah, I would, but unfortunately you’re not my type.” The tall blonde man took another step, squaring into the dark-haired man's chest, and looked down at him. “I think you owe her an apology.” “Seriously man?” The dark-haired man took a step back. I grabbed the blonde man's arm in an attempt to pull him back and avoid a brawl, but he didn't budge. “I don’t know who you think you are, but I don’t need your help.” I folded my arms over my chest and ignored the pounding of my heart. “He was just leaving,” I said with a glare toward the jerk. The blonde hair man smiled deviously at me. “You on the other hand, you might be just my type. And yes, I think he was just leaving.” He looked back at the dark-haired man, “weren't you?” The dark-haired man glanced between the two of us and paused before he hurried off without another word. My eyes stayed on him until he disappeared, swallowed whole by the pulsing crowd. As soon as I was sure he was gone, I spun around and fixed my gaze on the Greek Adonis who stood across from me, a beer bottle pressed to his lips. Holy shit. Every last inch of him oozed sex appeal. He was a bit older than me I thought, his tousled wavy blonde hair, sprinkled with little bits of salt and pepper. He was also very tall, and very stacked. His full lips lifted into a half-smirk. “You’re welcome, sweetheart.” I raised an eyebrow. “For what? I had it under control.” He lowered his beer bottle and chuckled. “Yeah, sure. Keep telling yourself that. I don’t think you wanted to see where that was going.” I shivered, knowing he was right. The dark-haired jerk was about two seconds away from getting physically aggressive with me. I rolled my eyes at the blonde greek god, and I pushed my way through the tightly packed crowd and spotted Haley’s familiar head of hair, leaning over the bar. As soon as I reached her, I hopped up on a bar stool and leaned against the counter signaling to the bartender. He came over. “Can I get a tequila? Thanks.” He set a shot glass in front of me and grabbed a bottle off the top shelf. “The good stuff, this ones on me.” I smiled at him, before downing it all in one burning gulp. “Thanks.” Haley peered at her colorful fruity drink and sniffed overdramatically. “Keith used to make me drinks like this.” I sighed and draped an arm over Haley’s shoulders. “I know you miss him, but you’re better off. You just don’t see it right now.” But I knew she would in time, Keith wasn't the world's greatest guy, but he also wasn't the worst, objectively speaking. This breakup had her overanalyzing everything wondering if they should have tried harder to make it work. But, in my opinion, truthfully, Keith Richards was a lazy piece of shit who didn’t deserve Haley, nor a single tear she shed over him. And in a few months’ time, she was going to be back to her old self, and he would be the last thing on her mind. I would make sure of it.
