Created with Vellum Blurb: Corpse: For seven years I’ve been living in a sort of stasis. Like I’m existing but not living, just going through the motions. Like a… well, a zombie. I was turned in the first wave of the outbreak, so for the past seven years I’ve been stuck in Zombieland with only my Club Brothers to keep me company. Don’t get me wrong, it hasn’t been miserable, but it hasn’t been lively or fulfilling either. That is until I ride up on an intruder trying to sneak their way into our compound; or is it they’re trying to sneak out, since all I’m seeing is the perfect… rear. When I pull the most beautiful creature out of the hole she’s dug herself into, I'm instantly mesmerized. I just didn’t realize it would be with a… human? Oh hell, she fluttered her way into the danger zone and now I have to do everything I can to keep her safe while not clipping her wings. But trouble is coming for my club, my brothers, my family. How can I keep them all safe when it's taking everything in me not to turn the woman I love into the monster I’ve become? Lani: I’ve never belonged in the real world. My parents didn’t want me. I have no real friends, no other relatives, so when I see that big wall surrounding the Quarantine Zone, my only thought is, why not scale it? What do I have to lose? Plus, can you imagine what treasures lay behind that wall? No way I can control that urge. It’s not like I'll be missed. Scaling the wall was easy, taking cover from the law that controls Zombieland was a piece of cake, digging my way under the Ungrateful Dead Motorcycle Club’s compound… yeah, that proved more difficult. Especially when a zombie stumbles upon my exposed (luckily clothed) booty and takes me prisoner. I don't realize he’s up for the challenge that is dealing with me or that I’ve found the best treasure of all: my zombie man, my soulmate, my love. Now, just to talk him into turning me so I can keep him for all of eternity. Bring on the Monster mash. Corpse won’t know what hit him. Prologue One A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… Well, more like seven years ago in a lab not nearly far enough away… Scientists aren't all bad. Humanity wouldn’t have gotten where it is today without them, for better or worse. A highly overdeveloped god complex, unchecked hubris, and scientific curiosity could have led to a breakthrough and improved the lives of everyone on the planet, but unfortunately for us, destruction was more in the cards. It’s been called the End of Days, the Apocalypse, and Dooms Day. For those of us that are still here, it’s just life. For most people in the after, things might not seem all that different. They go to work, raise their kids, and live their boring little lives, just with one little difference. Zombies. Seven years ago, an experiment got out of hand and resulted in the creation of Patient Zero. From there, the Z-Virus spread throughout the population faster than anyone could have seen coming. In a week, all of the East Coast had been exposed, and within a month, it had hit all of North America. By the end of the first year, there wasn’t a single corner of the planet that hadn’t been touched. Unlike all the comic books and movies predicted, this brand of zombie isn’t some mindless, undead, rotting, walking killing machine. No, no, no, well, not in our reality. After three days, the infected regain their humanity, for lack of a better phrase. They can walk, talk, and live among the masses without issue; no one would be wiser. Other than the minor issue of the white hair, pale gray skin, oh, and the craving for brains every once in a while still. The devil’s in the details. It didn’t take long for the government to step in and attempt to “contain the threat” the new zombies posed to the general population. The military declared martial law and started construction on the walls. Before the end of the second year, the wall around the entirety of what used to be Nebraska was completed. Officially, it is called the Z-Virus Quarantine Zone, but most people on the outside just call it the Z-Zone. Those of us on the inside affectionately call it Zombieland, though. The government gave the residents of what used to be Nebraska an official notice of eviction two months before the walls met, saying anyone who wanted out needed to get out before the gate was
