Misfits is my debut book and to be able to share this with you all has been the highlight of a very rough year. Thank you for taking the time to go on this journey with me and I hope to continue to pull you into this world and many more! Be on the look out for the second book coming out this fall 2023! Glossary Some of the words used in the book are Irish. Below are their meanings. Gra- Love Draiocht- Magic Oiche- Night Teaghlach- Family Draiocht Oiche- Magic Night Prologue Trust. Worth more than gold yet harder to find. Who can I trust? A family forged in the fires of hell? Or the family built on secrets and murder? No longer hiding who I am things start falling apart. A war is brewing the master puppeteers yanking the strings of the Dark Mages making them dance to their tune. I dance for no man. I fall for nothing. I stand for all. Unleashing my powers was the Dark Lords greatest mistake but something tells me he knew what he was doing. Chapter 1Isolabella Heat. That’s what I wake up to at five this morning before the sun has had a chance to come up. Rolling onto my back I shove Shadow, my mother’s tabby cat, off my legs. I never understood how my mother’s familiar loved to sleep in my bed more than hers, but I find comfort in the little gray tabby watching over me during the night. Sitting up, I stretch my arms in a twist and call out to Shadow, “Come here, fat girl.” Patting the bed, I wait for her to slink up the bed. Meow. She walks over to me and rubs her head against my knee. I pet Shadow’s head a few times before pushing the blankets off me and heading for the bathroom. Turning on the water to warm up my shower, I use the toilet and strip down to get in. After getting clean and making sure my hair is washed with my favorite purple shampoo I step out and dry off. Getting ready for the day I pull on my black sweatpants and a white crop top. Once my hair is dry, I tie my waist-length hair into a messy bun that any girl would be proud of. Glancing in the mirror to check my outfit, I study my reflection. Sometimes I think I might never get used to the color of my hair. Silver-blonde hair and forest-green eyes stare back at me. Smirking at myself for the thought that crosses my mind, I turn and slide on my flipflops and head out of my room to grab some food. Thinking about where I could have possibly gotten my hair color is something I find myself doing often because it has been a mystery ever since I was born. Walking into the kitchen I see my mother, Gwen, and my father, Sam, standing at the island drinking coffee and speaking in low voices. Grabbing a cup, I turn toward them. “Morning, Mom and Dad.” My dad’s head pops up. “Hey, Bell. You’re up early today.” Smiling, I reply, “Yeah, Shadow decided to provide her protection services and that turned into a sauna session.” Laughing, I walk over to my mom and give her a hug. “You’re familiar seems to be turning into my own personal tabby cat. I thought she was supposed to be guarding you not me.” Not one to joke about a mage’s familiar and their responsibilities she states, “Shadow is a very dependable guardian and she is also aware that you are my daughter, which puts you at the top of her list to keep an eye on.” Patting my shoulder, she smiles as I turn away. After I have my coffee and granola bar in hand, I head to a stool by the island and sit. Looking over the marble kitchen with fancy white cabinets and light gray walls, I admire how my parent’s power can make the inside of our cozy cottage appear as if it’s a manor inside. Using their powers to spell the home, we can live in a beautiful cottage that is larger on the inside. After taking a decent drink of my hot coffee I let my parents know that I will be going out with Patrick today to pick out my Claiming dress. We go over the details and what is and is not appropriate to wear when all the House of Light Mages will be in attendance. The Claiming has been on my calendar ever since I can remember. With only two weeks to go until
