Prologue "Philip, get your fucking ass back here," Reid shouted from the telephone room, struggling to extricate himself from the mess of wires. The lights were a little too bright for his eyes, and the coffee around there was cold. The air conditioning was working overtime to cool the computer systems and he was shivering now. A little too much. He had been in Milan for a while now, working his ass overtime, and he was not going to have some new employee get him angry. Reid had been in a good mood all through the week, and it was Saturday, so he had the time off the following day. A few more hours and a train ticket and he would be back in Rome, having the time of his life with Delilah - not his wife, but the woman he was having an affair with. "Don't tell me what to do," Philip's voice brought Reid from his thoughts of Delilah. He shifted in his seat and tried to hide his erection in his pants. "What to do? This is like your third day here." "Fifth," Philip replied and took the papers from him. "But hey man, I was just pulling your leg. We need a little brightening up in here." Reid smiled, knowing that Philip was right. He had settled nicely into his new role as a financial adviser for a network of hackers and criminals after he had been pulled from the streets of Los Angeles to Milan overnight against his will, but he was okay with that as long as he got his wages at the end of every month. Spending his time in Milan was nothing different from Los Angeles. He stayed home all day, playing games on his X-box console and watching movies, filling his stomach with cola and popcorn until his teeth chattered. Here, at least he got paid for doing something and he was away from his wife's constant nagging about him getting a job. At least, he was doing something now. "You should tell Dominic to liven this place up a little man," Philip said, settling into his seat once again to face the ton of blue light that came from the array of interconnected LED monitors. "Dominic?" Reid asked incredulously, sighing and groaning at the same time. "I ain't ever seen Dominic in my life." Dominic was their employer, and in the half year that Reid had been working there, he had never seen him. All he knew was that he got paid at the end of every month. 300,000 dollars wire transferred to a Swiss bank account that they created for him upon his recruitment. It kept his wife quiet and Delilah happy, and Reid did not bother asking questions as far as his employer paid him. Apart from that, they were not supposed to ask questions. Whoever Dominic was, all Reid knew was that he was a lover of art and the owner of a whole lot of information and money. "Come on man, you have to be kidding me, right?" Philip asked, not looking away from the screen even as he sipped some of the coffee that always tasted like cat litter and ash. "Kidding? What do you mean?" Philip was silent for a moment, and the sound of a mouse clicking filled the room. Reid turned back to the screen, checking the trail of money that they were laundering for Dominic - if that was even his real name. But none of that mattered yet. It would soon be his time off, and someone else would still come for it. Perhaps Ed or some other guy he had probably met over the past months. His employment with Dominic was not even about financial advising as he had thought. Instead, it was to monitor billions of dollars that were being laundered every day to numerous accounts and charity events to wash it up. Their job was
